Sophia Ester Ratigan Klapak
Mor-Mor

Sophia or as her brother lovingly named her "Honey", passed away in the presence of her family at home on May 5, 2013 at the age of 80.

She was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 19, 1933, the ninth of thirteen children of Myra and Edward Ratigan. Sophia was saint-like and taught us unconditional love. She had a close relationship with her two sisters Frances and Patricia. She was a single mother who, along with her sisters, raised her daughters with love, strength and understanding. Sophia loved plants and was always an avid reader. She was a big fan of "Murder She Wrote" and "Perry Mason."

She made each grandchild feel that they were her favorite. Each one was the favorite.
Sophia said, "From the moment they were born a new love was born in her heart for each grandchild which God sent to her.

She is survived by her sister Frances Ratigan; daughters and their families Valerie (Tom) Casey and their children Carrieann Peterson, Jillian (Todd) Cowley, Kathleen (Michael) Lowther, Timothy McQueeney, Raven (John) Jones and Siobhan Casey; Jacqueline Klapak and her daughter Michelle Lynn Thompson; and Jeanine (Felix Manuel) Cabrera and children JoAnna Marie, Felix Patrick and Francis Damaso; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, eight sisters and four brothers.

A Wake will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 9 at 11:00 AM St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 East Spring Lane, Salt Lake City. Interment to follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Ave and "T" Street.

In Loving Memory

My most heart-felt condolences and best wishes to your family in this hard time. Sophia was an amazing women and in the few times I was able to talk to her and see her, she always possessed a strength and wisdom about her that I admired and I know she passed on to her daughters, granddaughters, and her family. I also know that she loved her family with all of her heart and soul. She is looking down from heaven and smiling on all of us and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Rest in Peace.

Valerie, Jackie, Jeannine, Aunt Frankie - my thoughts and prayers are with you all and your families. This is sad news and would love nothing more than to attend the services. I remember when Aunt Honey was in Texas with us when my dad was in the hospital and was there for us when he passed. You know, she actually was the one who delivered that heart-wrenching news?... I will never forget how wonderful and compassionate she was. She has always had a special place in my heart....Take care and God bless.

MorMor was one of a kind, and will always hold a special place in my heart. Your family has shown nothing but kindness to me over the years, and MorMor was no acception. I am proud to have known such a wonderful woman and am thankful to be a part of such a loving family. Although I couldn't be there for the service, please know I was thinking about each and every one of you. MorMor will be missed. xoxoxo
