Stephen Moore Amoss

May 31, 1947 - January 20, 2022

Hey Cowboy, you've got blinds to prep, fence lines to ride and one more river to run.  Time to saddle that pony and hit the trail…

It was a great life. One filled with love, passion, adventure and joy.  From working and riding horses on the ranches of Northeastern Utah to the Steel mills of Chicago, Steve did a little of everything and exceled at most. He was a passionate river guide, working for many years on the Grand Canyon and Middle Fork of the Salmon.  He played baseball in Tempe and rugby in Park City and devoted himself to being a great coach for both girls and boys soccer.

His greatest passion was Ducks and Geese, both as a hunter and a fierce conservator of the land. Time on the water and in the field was spiritual for him and it took him from the prairies in Alberta to the marshes of the Great Salt Lake.  He had countless friends and left permanent impressions everywhere he went. The birds are sleeping a little easier now as he was feared by all waterfowl who crossed his blinds.  For 30 years, he spent countless hours at the Burnham duck club, not only hunting and telling tales, but building and maintaining the various blinds and dykes to ensure a successful season for all of its members.

Steve worked for 23 years for Culp Construction and 10 years as the owner’s rep for the Episcopal Diocese of Utah where he oversaw the construction of new churches across the state, becoming a mentor and guide for the maintenance and care of their facilities.  He could fix anything, he could do anything, he was a giant, bigger than the mountains he loved.

Steve was married to his soulmate Bobbie-Jean (Punkins) and father of Hilary Moore and John Dudley, three stepsons, Jake, Josh (Angie) and Nate (Steph).  He was an extremely proud Papa Goose to four joyful and rambunctious Grandchildren, Adyson Grace, Sarah Jean, Jaxon David and John Patrick (Jack), and a step Granddaughter Taylor.

Steve is survived by his three brothers Dee, John and Lindsey and proceeded in death by his parents Dudley M. and Diana Saunders.

If lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Steve’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association Utah Chapter at alz.org/Join or to any other Conservation Charity of your choice.

An outdoor celebration of Steve’s life will be held in the Spring when the rivers run high and the birds fill the sky.
