Steven J. Clissold
July 22, 1947 - October 27, 2025
Steven J. Clissold passed away at his home on October 27, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 22, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Jack and Lavon Herbert Clissold. He graduated from Skyline High School in 1965.
Steven spent most of his career in the autobody industry. He worked for many years alongside his brother Lane at Alpine Body Shop, later opening his own business, Anchor Auto Body.
He married Terry Mortensen, and together they had two sons, Sean and Tracy. After their divorce, he then married Margie Doyle, and they had one son, Chris. He later married the love of his life, Jackie Woodbury, in 1978 in Elko, Nevada. This union brought two more children that Steven raised as his own, Clyde and Marci.
Steven loved the outdoors—ATVing, camping, and fly fishing with his brother Lane. He loved nice cars and his Corvette. In the 1970s, he competed in bodybuilding and won an award for “Best of Back Utah.”
He deeply loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He was always such a fun “Gramps”, and they always loved when he would play silly games with them. He shared a special bond with his granddaughter, Taylor (“Tay-bug”), who preceded him in death.
Steven cherished his neighbors in Millcreek, where he was affectionately known as “The Mayor of Melbourne Street.” He had a great sense of humor and was always the life of the party, especially when his brother Lane was involved.
Steven will now be reunited with his beloved Jackie, who passed away in 2009. He missed her so much.
He is survived by his sons:
Sean, Tracy, Chris (Amy) Clissold, and Clyde (Michelle) McKean;
daughter: Marci (Joe) DeHaan;
brother: Lane; and sister: Cindy.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Braxton, Kylee, Shelbi, Carson, Jaxon, Grace, and Ellie;
and four great-grandchildren: Waylon, Ember, Audrey, and Allan.
Special nieces include Morgan and Raven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jackie, his granddaughter Taylor, special sister-in-law April, and his childhood friend, Merlin Taylor.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. He will be laid to rest at Wasatch Lawn with his wife, Jackie.
Godspeed, Steven! We love you.

I was so fortunate to have met Steven and the Clissold family. You all were a HUGE part of Merlin's life. Steven was wonderful to me, checking up to make sure I was surviving my new existence. He would call and delight me each time with a new story about him, Lane ^& Merlin's youthful ways. I know life will be a shade duller without him. What a great friend. Thank you Steven - I know you're somewhere close to your loved ones and Merlin!

Dad, I miss you and our chats already. You always gave me good advice, always deep discussions and always made me laugh. I’m going to miss those times. I hated to see what you went through the last month. It breaks my heart but I’m glad you are at peace now and no more suffering. You gave it your all. You’re a fighter. I hope the reunion in heaven with Mom, your parents, Tay-bug and Aunt April is splendid. You were my rock. Thanks for always being there for me. 🙏🏻💔 I’ll forever miss you.

I have a wonderful memory of my cousin Steven. We used to be called the Kissing Cousins when we were little, like really young…3 or 4 years actually. When kindergarten started we assumed that we’d be together in class. We walked hand in hand and sat by each other. We all had blankets to lie down for a nap after eating our graham crackers and milk. But there weren’t enough snacks for all the little kiddos so they read each person’s name. Steve’s was not on the list! Oh no! They said he had to go to another class. We hung on for dear life and cried and cried. It must have been very hard for the teacher to part us. It ruined both of our first day and after school we ran to find each other. It’s funny inna way because Steve and I never had another class together all thru our school years. Loved him dearly!

I cherish the times we spent working together at Lanes shop, You lived a very good life and were so generous with your time, I miss you! And I know I'll see you again! Rest in peace my sweet cousin.
