Susan Marie Otley
October 24, 1987 - August 1, 2023
Susan Marie Otley passed away Tuesday August 1st, 2023, surrounded by those she loved. She had quietly fought Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Anus since March of 2023. She was very private as she fought her battle, not wanting anyone to worry or fuss over her. She was born October 24, 1987 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Reid Randall Otley and Judy Newren Otley. She was the baby sister to Heather, Gregory and Darren.
She graduated high school in 2006 and started working at Home Health IMD soon after. She enjoyed working there for 5 years, traveling to patient’s homes, helping & assisting them. While working there she earned her CNA and then applied to work at IMC. She worked at IMC on the Oncology floor, T9, for 7 years as a CNA and HUC. She worked even through her 1st battle of cancer with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. While working on T9 she was approached to create a new position of Hospitalist Scheduling Coordinator with fellow co-worker Sabrina Searle. Together over the last 5 years they have helped 1,000’s of patients find the care that they wouldn’t have been able to find otherwise. She was proud of the work she did and loved her job. She was very sad when the cancer kept her from fulfilling her position and even the burden that it would put on her fellow employees; because that, was just who she was.
In her free time she LOVED to read, watch Jeopardy!, go camping, travel, fix her own car, go to car shows with her Dad, spend time with her family and friends, watch Hocus Pocus, dressing up at Halloween (best Ursula costume ever), play games with Aunt Laura, go out to breakfast, share Chinese food with Mom, collect movies, help Heather with sewing projects, play video games with Charlie, watch LaRue and Quinn’s softball games, take Ella and Lydia out to dinner and play cars with Reid. And she was the Best at finding gifts for her family!
She adopted her Fur Baby Winnie in 2016. She was heartbroken at the thought of having to leave her behind. She did have a chance to say goodbye to her “service animal” before she passed.
We want to send a HUGE Thank You to all the Nurses, Doctors, and Hospital staff, whom she called family, for the wonderful care she received during the last 3 weeks of her life that she spent at IMC. A special Thanks to Kim and Marie, for all they did to get her back to her “family” on T9. Words cannot express our gratitude for all you did for her. Thank You, Thank you, Thank you!
She is survived by her Mother Judy, Sister Heather (Chad), Brothers Gregory and Darren (Annie). Nieces and Nephews: Charlie, LaRue, Ella, Quinn, Lydia and Reid. Her favorite red headed Aunt, Laura. Best Friends Carolynn Hansen, Jessica Olaveson and Sabrina Searle. And many others, too numerous to name here.
Proceeded in death by her Father, whom she missed every single day since his passing in 2017. What a reunion they are having now! A viewing will be held Friday August 11, 2023 from 6 – 8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, UT. Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 12th at 1:00pm with a viewing one hour prior at Starks Funeral Parlor. All are welcome to come and share their memories of Susan at her funeral.
