Terry William Rogers

September 19, 1947 - March 13, 2025

Terry passed away at the Salt Lake City, Utah Veterans Hospital on March 13th, 2025 with his loving family at his side.

He was born on September 19, 1947, to Carrol Fredrick Rogers and Afton Miller Simpson at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He graduated from Olympus High School in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1966 and that same year, met the love of his life, Catherine Anne Lochhead, while installing sprinklers at her family’s home. Shortly after that, he enlisted in the United States Army at the young age of 17 where he served our country from 1966 to 1970 and fought in the Vietnam War. He forged unbreakable bonds and friendships during this time as they stood together through the trials of war and truly became brothers in arms. This dedication of serving others became a cornerstone of his life, a testament to his loyalty, bravery, and shared sacrifice.

Terry married Catherine on July 31st, 1970 and lived in Sandy, Utah where together they raised four amazing children, Jamie, Samantha, Michael, and Lindsey.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, cooking and creating new recipes. Oftentimes, Lindsey was right by his side as his sous chef and Terry was lovingly known as Barney Crocker. He liked watching NASCAR, photography, and had a love for animals, especially cats. Terry also enjoyed spending time watching The Price is Right with his “coworkers at the office.” He was adventurous and had a passion for several outdoor activities such as gardening, travelling, scuba diving, skiing, and running.

In his early career, Terry was a firefighter and EMT with the Sandy City Fire Department, where he developed many lifelong friendships. He had a funny sense of humor, enjoyed making jokes and being silly, he knew how to take life in stride and always have a good time and taught us all not to take life so seriously. His family happily inherited the jovial & sarcastic attitude he carried, including his famous one finger salute he proudly displayed.

Out of all his occupations, Terry especially loved and was quite proud of his painting business. He took pride in his work, transforming countless homes and businesses with precision and care and was dedicated to making peoples spaces a brighter place. Through this, he cultivated lasting relationships with clients who became great friends. He had a big heart and it was proudly shown through his work.

Terry’s spirit and legacy of laughter and living life fully will continue to inspire all that had the pleasure of knowing him. The family extends a heartfelt thanks to everyone who has shown love and support during this difficult time.

Terry would not have wanted any of us to be sad & tearful, so with that in mind, we will be having a celebration of life which will be held on Thursday, March 27th from 6-8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, Utah, where family and friends are welcome to share memories and honor his extraordinary life. Guests are encouraged to use parking and entrance located on the north side of the building.

Terry is survived by his wife, Catherine A Lochhead Rogers; Daughters, Jamie Rogers Elmer (Corey); Samantha Rogers Slocombe; Lindsey “Clancy” Rogers; and Son, Terry Michael Rogers (Jami); Grandchildren; Ethan, Chloe, & Brooklyn Rogers (Mike & Jami), Maddox, Christian & Jaedyn Elmer (Jamie & Corey), Ambriel & Ascha Slocombe (Samantha); Our Alice Rogers (Carrol); Sisters; Heather Rogers, Suzanne Jones (Pete) & numerous other family members.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to your favorite military or veterans’ charity, cancer research, local animal charity in Terry’s memory and in the words of Bob Barker, “Please have your pets spayed or neutered.”

I am stunned to learn of this. Terry was a good friend to me at Olympus High School. Twenty years later you and Terry became X's and my most fun friends and I have genuinely missed our often rowdy adventures: Nashville, the CMA Awards, Austin’s hill and lake country, San Antonio River Walk, Salt Lake City class reunions, Dollywood, Palm Springs, Park City and Snowbird condos ... I did not realize Terry had been a diver ~ part of those missing 20 years, I imagine. I'm so grateful to have had such wonderful friends.
