Tuesday was marked by the passing of noted Utah artist, Thelma Bagnell Parsons. Art was her life from the time she was a small girl in Coalville, UT. She graduated from the University of Utah in 1949 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and continued to study with other noted Utah artists, LeCount Steward, Florence Ware, and Ed Marion. Thelma currently has two paintings in the Springville Museum of Art’s. She was a member of the Utah Watercolor Society and Utah Fine Artist Guild.
Thelma was a preemie, born in Coalville to Willian Elmen Bagnell and Goldie Judd. Her father always said she was so small she fit in the palm of his hand when she was born. They put her in a shoebox and set it on the oven door. Despite the odds, she grew and thrived.
Thelma married Dr. Bruce James Parsons, optometrist, and settled in Murray. They had four children: Cheryl Parsons Marzec, Wendy ParsonsBaker, Vaughn Parsons, and Craig Parsons, and four grandchildren.
