Thomas A. Trane CLU, ChFC, LUTCF

June 10, 1953 – June 4, 2012

Tom Trane was the life of the party. He was the one making sure your glass was full. He was a national guardsman, mechanical engineer, insurance man, family man, golfer, skier and the one still talking to you twenty minutes after he’d said goodbye. He loved wine, knowledge, travel and the art of the sale. His brilliant and inquisitive mind was always searching. He lived the life he wanted to live. His easy going nature and generosity will be missed most of all.

He is survived by his wife and soul mate of 31 years Shauna; two sons Chad and Colby; grandchildren Theo and Lyric; parents Ralph and Elda; siblings David, Becky, Rachel, Susan and Jon; devoted in-laws Bill, Shirley, Charlotte and Mary; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of people whose lives will be less bright without him.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 9th at 1:00 PM at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South, Salt Lake City.

In Loving Memory

Tom, thank you so much for all of the precious moments we shared throughout the last twenty years! You always brought such happiness and joy to the times we spent together. We miss you and Jaycob, and hope you are not teaching Jake any new tricks! We will miss you and we will always love you! Shauna, Chad and Colby; thank you for sharing such a wonderful husband/father with everyone, we will always be in your debt for the time you sacrificed by sharing him. We love Tom as part of our own family! Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time. Remember your happy moments together and cherish them. Carry those thoughts and memories in your heart and he will always be with you. We know that everything still seems surreal, but as things settle back to normal and the tears start to surface; think of him and how he always brought love and cheer to the home, think of the moments you spent together, think of how much he loved and cared for you, and most of all remember that he would not want you to be sad. He would want you to live your life to the fullest, enjoying every moment along the way. May God watch over all of you as you take these first steps without Tom physically by your side. We love you and wish only the best for the immediate and extended family.

Tom was a jind person to me. He tried to help me become a insurance agent. I was sick at the time and did not know why I could not grasp the insurance biz. Tom let me continue to work on it and was very patient. I had a tumor in my head and did not complete the training. He is a smart person. I have been thinking of him for the past couple of days. I was shocked to see his obits. I wish that I had tried to do more with him as afriend outside of work, He truely is a fun person to be around. I ll miss him as Im sure his family will also.

I went to school with Tom and he was always so very kind to me. Seems like everytime I turned around there was Tommy smiling at me, waht a nice guy. My sister Karen was Becky's best friend back in the day, we all went through alot. Our family was very close to The Trane's. I always wondered what happened to Tommy and Becky. I am so sad to hear of his death. "When someone we love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure!"

We are both so shocked and saddened by the loss of one of the truely finest examples of what a "Great Neighbor" should be. Tom was a true gentleman and friend who went out of his way to help anyone in need. The holidays have not been the same since you left our little circle. We miss him even more and at this time we offer our prayers and love to Shauna and the boys at this most difficult time. Bob and Liz

Shauna, Wilfred, Shirley and Char, I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Tom's passing. He was just a great guy and always made you feel like he genuinely cared about you. Shauna, you and Tom were always the most gracious hosts and so generous and loving. You all are in my thoughts at this difficult time and I pray you can find comfort in all the wonderful memories you have together. Much love, Stevi

Dear Shauna, I am so sorry to hear about Tom's death and am in shock. I enjoyed my Years working with him. I thought he would live forever with his easy going manner. I know your family will miss him a lot. Linda.

To all of Tom's family, friends, associates, and others who have joined together in mourning at this difficult time, Carolyn and I both join you. Tom and I both became DM's with Farmers Insurance on the same day in 1983, and developed a working relationship as well as a friendship that lasted long after my retirement. It had been awhile since we last spoke, and he still had the wit and spark for life that I remembered from our days of working together. We shall all miss him, and to Shauna and family we know that God will grant you the strength to face this difficult period. As a wise man once said, "if God bring you to it, He will also bring you through it." Sorry the time and distance keeps us from being in SLC tomorrow at 1:00PM, but our prayers will be with you. Shauna, boys, I first met Tom when he was a brand-new agent in a tiny office at the International Center and I worked at TV-20 just down the street. Had to be 1984-85. I bought renter's insurance from him. Coincidentally, I worked under Tom as an agent about 12 years later. Tommy was a unique character. There's no other way to explain him. It was like there were 10 people in there trying to get out all at once, sometimes. I could engage him in a conversation on almost any subject, pre-internet days, and we would have a great time. Car engines or international politics, marketing or do-it-yourself home repairs, didn't matter. He was strongly opinionated about nearly everything and so was I so we clicked in a lot of nice ways. Tom had a soft side and a wonderful heart and generous beyond fault. He might be bluster and opinions and directives during business hours, but I always knew that I could literally trust him with my life and I never had to worry whether or not he had my best interest in mind. He was the guy you wanted in your foxhole in tough times, personally and professionally.

I didn't see Tom that often but every time I did he made me feel like a long lost friend. He made me feel accepted and comfortable. He was always gracious. If there has ever been someone you wish you could have gotten to know much better; for me Tom was that guy. I love you Shauna and my prayers are with you and your family. Mark

Some of my most precious memories are of growing up on Elgin Avenue across the street from the Tranes. Tom and I were great little buds in those days, getting into mischief (he taught me how to forge a parental note to the teacher in 3rd grade- it didn't work) and just enjoying life. I will always remember "Tommy". He has a beautiful family and a legacy of goodness will always follow him.
