Thomas Samuel Herschberg

February 9, 1931 - August 13, 2011

Thomas Herschberg

1931 – 2011

Following a much too short stay of 80 years, Thomas Herschberg, our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, left us peacefully on August 13, 2011 to rejoin his bride Kathy of 55 years and their daughter Cindy.

During his time here Tom and Kathy raised four children, Tim, John, Cindy and Matt.  He served his professional life as an electrical design engineer with North American Rockwell in Southern California where he worked for over 30 years, finally retiring in 1994.  Tom took well-deserved pride in having worked on satellite guidance systems for the Apollo and shuttle programs.

Tom and Kathy moved to Park City in 1991 where they enjoyed a full life as a vibrant part of our community and owners of the Owls Roost Bed and Breakfast.  They were members of the Park City Ambassadors for many years and Tom continued to stay active by working first in guest services and finally making deliveries occasionally for the Park City Mountain Resort.  Tom was a devoted member of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church and, along with Kathy, was vested in the Equestrian Order of the Sepulchre of Holy Jerusalem Western USA Lieutenancy.

Tom will always be remembered for his quiet grace and warmth and by his ability to reserve any outbursts of anger solely for perceived boneheaded mistakes by University of Utah football coaches.  His understated presence belied a strength that served as a rock-solid foundation for his family and for those closest to Tom.

Tom is survived by his three sons Tim (Carol), John (Deanne) and Matthew; grandchildren Eric, Brenna, Ian and Chris; brother Jim; very special friend Jim Lawler; many nieces and nephews; and friends too numerous to count.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church on Highway 224 in Park City.  Rosary will begin at 9:00 AM with Funeral Mass following at 10:00 AM.

Donations in Tom’s memory may be made to Rally for a Cure at www.komen.org.

In Loving Memory

I am so sorry to hear of Tom's passing. He was truly a great man. When I spoke with him just a few short months ago, I knew that his heart was broken, without Kathy. My thoughts and prayers are with you, may your memories of them both give you peace.
