Valorie Sue Gass Kemp
June 15, 1951 - May 11, 2023
Valorie Sue Gass Kemp (also known as Pretty Aunt Val) passed away on Thursday, May 11th surrounded by her family following a long illness.
Valorie was born to Val and Helene Gass in Bremerton, Washington on June 15, 1951. She moved to Granger, Utah in 1961 where she attended Granger Elementary, Valley Junior High and graduated with the class of 1969 from Granger High School.
On July 7, 1973, Valorie married Gregory Kemp and was happily married for over 36 years. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Jenny Lane and Rebecca Ellen, who are blessed with many of Valorie’s best attributes.
Valorie spent over 32 years as an Executive Secretary at Primary Childrens Hospital. She was loved and respected and was the backbone of the radiology department as she took care of countless doctors who relied upon her for so many things.
From the time she took her first breath until she took her last, Valorie loved life. She loved people. She filled the role of mother, sister, wife, grandmother, and aunt in such a way that it blessed the lives of so many others. And yet, only one word is needed to describe this woman and that word is KINDNESS. She lived it every day of her life. To just stand next to her and watch how she treated people and spoke to people would leave you determined to find a way to become more like her. She would strive to brighten the day of every person she came in contact with if only with a sincere gesture or comment. She loved the Lord and everyday strived to emulate His love.
Valorie is survived by her two loving daughters, Jenny Davis, Las Vegas and Rebecca Kemp, West Valley City; three grandchildren, Andie, Logan, and Cooper; brother Jim (Terri) Gass, North Logan, Sisters Sally Koch, Salt Lake City, Paula (Steve) Shockey, West Valley City and Peggy (Andy) Dagley, North Carolina; half-sister Diana (Robert) Easson, California as well as her Uncle Warren (Patti) Gossett, Idaho and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Valorie was proceeded in death by her loving husband, Gregory Kemp; her parents Helene and Val Gass; and her youngest brother Ted (Jenny) Gass.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in her name.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on June 21st at 1 PM at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 4914 South 2200 West, Taylorsville. A Celebration of Life will be held later that day from 6-8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Millcreek. Guests are encouraged to use parking and entrance located at the north side of the building. We invite all who have been touched by her life over the years to join us.
In Loving Memory
Pretty Aunt Val became someone I loved from the first time I met her. Her kindness, smile and contagious laugh or definitely among her greatest attributes! The first day I met her she welcome to me with loving arms, and that never stopped. She was Pretty Aunt Val to my two daughters who she loved wholeheartedly, and they sure love her right back. I will miss her greatly, and she leaves an empty place in my heart.. but when I think about the sweet reunion between her and Greg in heaven, it puts a smile on my face. I know I will see her again. Sending all my love to Becky and Jenny.

She was the kind of person that always made you feel special as if you were her best friend. She had a genuine love for others and kindness should have been her middle name. It was always so wonderful to visit with her when we were at Deb and Joe's for a barbecue or family celebration. She always greeted me warmly and treated me as if I were family. That is an amazing talent and gift. What a beautiful legacy she leaves her family and friends. If only we could be more like her, the world would be a wonderful place. Sending loving thoughts and prayers to her daughters. You are her shining stars and are so like her. You will be together again. God needed another angel to forward His work in Heaven. God bless you with a peaceful heart.

It is with great sadness that we learn of the recent passing of Val Kemp. For over 30 years, she was a most valued employee at Primary Childrens Hospital. As Executive Secretary of Pediatric Radiology she was the one who organized the department, typed our manuscripts, planned the department social functions, and kept the department running smoothly. Val was the conduit to happenings throughout the hospital. What was happening in the department of surgery, just ask Val. No task was too small, or too large, for Val, and she always did it with a large smile. Our sympathies are with her family and friends. Helene and Richard Jaffe

With Love for a Dear Friend Growing up on Cheryl Street the Gass family was our family. Our moms were best friends! Val was not only our baby sitter, but was like a big sister. When Val had Jenny it felt like Jenny was our Cheryl Street baby. I was young so Jenny seemed like the first baby we got to love. I am so very grateful for Val and the entire Gass family for embracing our family as if we belonged to their family. I will forever love you all. I can imagine the reunion that may be taking place in the next chapter of life for Val - beautiful and happy for sure. May each of you in this life feel the peace and love that comes from the knowledge of a life well lived.
