Vance Nathan Stevens, 66, died peacefully Friday September 16, 2011 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Vance was born April 3, 1945 in Pasadena, California to Lilas Mary Johnson Stefan and George Robert Stefan. Vance spent his childhood and youth in Los Angeles and the South Bay area of Redondo Beach & Torrance California. He received his education in Torrance, California, El Camino College and Brigham Young University. He also attended American River College in Sacramento, California.

            As an adult Vance lived and worked in Southern California, Phoenix, Arizona and Sacramento California where he eventually retired because of health concerns. In 2010 he left California and moved to Eagle Mountain, UT.

            Vance was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ and loved the temple. His ward family was very important to him. He enjoyed photography, reading, art and beautiful music. Vance studied music and was an excellent cellist. He was conductor of the student orchestra in high school and college. He was selected as the most valuable musician in his high school and went on tour with the Southern California Honor Symphony.

One outstanding characteristic Vance exemplified is his gratitude for the health workers who have cared for him since his first heart surgery. He had great faith was patient and optimistic.

            Vance was preceded in death by his parents George & Lilas Stefan, and brother Keith. He is survived by many loving cousins and by Susan Taylor and her daughters Sandy Steed and Sarah Watts and their families who have been close to Vance.

            Graveside services for Vance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Elysian Burial Gardens located at 1075 E. 4580 S. in Salt Lake City. 

In Loving Memory

I am Vance's first cousin. To those who have been Vance's caretakers over the years I extend my appreciation for the love and care that you gave to him. I know that he has had many challenges in his life and I am glad that he is now beyond them. He is at peace no longer has to deal with pain. i extend my sympathy to all the cousins for we have lost a very special person,
