Vera Mae Osment

"Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother. Great-Grandmother and Friend" Vera Mae Famula Osment, age 88, formerly of Clearwater, Kansas and recently from Sandy, Utah, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2017 at Alta Ridge Memory Care. Vera was welcomed home by her loved ones who preceded her in death: her parents; a sister, Marybelle Ahlin; brothers Edward, Raymond and LeRoy; and great grandson Rogue Story. Vera was the youngest of six children, born in Pocahontas, IL on February 26, 1929 to Ignatz and Mary Famula. Vera spent most of her life growing up on the family farm in Transylvania, LA. Her early job was to deliver water to the workers, and then she graduated to picking cotton. When Vera was in her 20's, she moved to Bartlesville, OK and then later to Wichita, KS. This is where she met her husband of 63 years and soulmate, Donald Osment. 

Don and Vera were married March 7, 1954 in Bartlesville, OK. Together they raised two daughters, Donna (Todd) Epp of Vancouver, WA and Sharon (John) Hartline of Sandy, UT. In addition to her spouse and children she is survived by four grandchildren and four great grandchildren Sarah (Jay) Eilers (Micah, Eden, and in February a fourth great grandchild, Owen) of Sioux Falls, SD, Matthew Epp of Harrisburg, SD, Stefani (Nickolas) Davis (Katharine) of West Jordan, UT, and Courtney (boyfriend Jon Puskar) Hartline of West Jordan, UT; a sister, Dorothy (Jim) McCloud of Bartlesville, OK; and several nieces and nephews. 

Vera was a stay at home mom for much of the girls' life and was very active in her daughters' school and community activities. She was a leader for their Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girls groups and involved in their schools through PTA and Home Room Leader. When the girls were teenagers, Vera returned to work, working at Boeing, BendRite, and Cessna. Later in her life, she thoroughly enjoyed working in the school cafeteria and interacting with the children. Vera was an amazing cook; Don often said that she, "could whip up a meal fit for a king, with nothing in the cabinets." Vera also enjoyed gardening and loved her large backyard garden. She loved music and dancing, something that always perked her up, even as her illness progressed. Vera loved traveling, especially to South Dakota and Utah to see her grandchildren. 

The family wishes to thank the staff a Alta Ridge Memory Care and Millcreek Hospice for their compassionate care. We will miss her terribly, though are comforted by knowing her memories are restored. 

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 1711 South Camp Williams Rd., Bluffdale.
