Wanda A. Davis
February 16, 1936 - October 16, 2023
Wanda was born to Roger and Marguerite Wolcott on February 16, 1936 in Pine River, MN. She was the oldest of three children; she had a sister, Ardith and brother, Jim. Wanda was raised on her family farm next door to her Opa and Oma in Pequot Lakes, MN. On the farm she would milk the cows, feed the chickens and play with the piglets. It was on the farm that Wanda learned to get her hands dirty and work hard.
Wanda graduated from Pine River High School and shortly after graduation went to visit family in Montana, where she met Lyle H. Davis. After a short courtship they were married in Billings, MT. Together they had three children Gregg, Ardell and Diane. They moved often due to Lyle’s work, but ultimately decided to raise their family in Sandy, UT. Together they loved to travel, frequently making trips home to Minnesota and Montana to visit family. Wanda was the best co-pilot as she navigated the map and served Lyle his coffee. They were married for 58 years before Lyle’s passing in 2014.
Wanda was a homemaker for many years. She loved to cook and bake, and always encouraged a second serving. Wanda also enjoyed sewing, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, remodeling and updating her home, and gardening. She had a great passion for gardening and loved flowers, especially red roses which she grew in her front yard. She enjoyed being outside in the sunshine and would spend hours weeding her flower beds, they were always gorgeous and overflowing with irises, peonies and daisies. Wanda worked at Kmart and for WDS at Costco. During this time, she met some of her dearest friends. She was a social butterfly and loved to spend time with her friends; she enjoyed many lunch dates, shopping sprees, and vacations with them over the years. Wanda loved to look her best and enjoyed getting dressed up for any occasion. Even when she could no longer drive, she would walk to the beauty shop each week to get her hair cut and colored. Wanda served as a deacon at her church, Cottonwood Presbyterian, where she loved to serve and praise the Lord. She had a heart for service and enjoyed helping her church community. Each week she greeted guests with a warm smile and embrace.
Wanda was happiest when spending time with her grandchildren, who affectionately called her Granny. She gave them the two most important things, her time and love. She enjoyed sleepovers, baking cookies, swimming, reading and contributed greatly in raising them. Later in life, Wanda welcomed nine great-grandchildren where she continued her tradition of sleepovers with endless snacks. She cherished being around her family and never missed their activities.
Wanda peacefully passed away on October 16, 2023 with her two granddaughters, Melissa and Danielle, by her side. She adored and shared a special bond with her girls. Wanda is preceded in death by her husband Lyle and their children Gregg and Ardell.
We know this is not goodbye; you will forever live in our hearts. We love and miss you so much Granny!
A celebration of life will be held Monday, October 23, 2023 at 2 PM at Cottonwood Presbyterian Church, 1580 Vine St, Murray, UT 84121.
