Wendy Lynn Stone

January 4, 1956 - October 1, 2023

On the evening of October 1, 2023, under a beautiful double rainbow, Wendy Lynn Stone passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side.

She was born January 4, 1956 in El Cajon, CA to Delores Ruth and David Finley. Her mother later married Bill Charles Buckel who adopted Wendy when she was two years old.

As a teen Wendy worked at the Buckel Family drive-thru milk store, Rocky Home Dairy.  She graduated from El Cajon Valley High School in 1975, and then attended Grossmont College and graduated from Kelsey Jenney Business College.

Wendy loved to sing and was a member of the choir in high school and in college. During that time she had a CB radio installed in her Datsun and loved to share that hobby with her brother Aaron. She also enjoyed roller skating at Skyline Roller Rink in Spring Valley with her friends. She was a great big sister who always took her younger siblings along with her to Mission Beach.

She met her future husband Lee Stone in San Diego and moved with him to Salt Lake City where they were married in 1996. Wendy enjoyed entertaining in their home and hosted many memorable parties including an annual New Year’s Eve party, where she demonstrated her ability to make amazing food and decorations. She and Lee also had many fun, themed Halloween parties over the years that delighted their many friends and family. Wendy worked for various construction companies in her career, including Lowell Construction. She retired in 2013.

In her spare time, Wendy was an accomplished artist and seamstress who made beautiful drawings and paintings, as well as quilts, blankets, and costumes. She was always looking for new creative outlets to master and share with her loved ones. Gardening, graphic design, and cooking were some of the hobbies she took up and excelled at. The things she made for her beloved nieces and nephews were especially thoughtful and cherished. She also loved animals and had many fur babies over the years that she cared for. Her dog Dudley and cat Maggie will miss her dearly.

Wendy was able to reconnect with her birth father David Finley near the end of his life, which was very rewarding for both of them. She was preceded in death by her parents Dee and Bill Buckel and David Finley, her father and mother-in-law Chuck and Pat Stone.

She is survived by her husband Lee Stone, siblings, Aaron Buckel (Raquel), Sharon Midgley, and Eric Buckel (Bonnie). Uncle Harry, nieces Clair and Paige, and Nephews Quentin and Neil. She is also survived by sisters and brothers in law, and many nieces and nephews on the Stone side of the family.

Wendy’s friends and family will miss her artistic talent, her kindness, and her wicked sense of humor. We are comforted to know that she is finally at peace.

In Loving Memory
