William R. Bartle

January 1, 1943 - February 16, 2015

William Robert Bartle
1/1/1943-2/16/2015

William Robert Bartle passed away on February 16, 2015 in Salt Lake City after a brief illness and life-long complications from polio. Bill was born in Utica, New York as the only child of William Herbert Bartle and Margaret Aurelia Bartle on January 1, 1943 – A New Year’s Baby. He attended Kemble Street School, and graduated from Utica Free Academy. He worked nine years at the State Street Mill as a billing clerk and 23 years for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He retired from Met Life in 1998.

Bill is survived by his Aunt Eleanor (Taft) McSally (Rhode Island), and many cousins.  He was preceded in death by his father and mother. Bill was a faithful parishioner of both Blessed Sacrament Church in East Utica and Our Lady of Lourdes Church in South Utica.

Bill was a dedicated bowler, participating in many bowling leagues in the Utica area.  He maintained close friendships with many of his fellow bowlers throughout the years.  Bill was also a passionate supporter of his many favorite sports teams: NY Mets baseball (not the Yankees!), NY Islanders hockey, the Clinton Comets hockey, Syracuse college football, the Utica Blue Sox baseball, and many others.

As challenging as Bill’s physical limitations were, he was able to live a rich and full life under the loving care of his father and mother.

With his family, Bill travelled widely throughout the Unites States, but never on an airplane; that is, until he moved to Salt Lake City in April 2011 to be near his cousin, Jeff McCoy.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff at Woodland Park Care Center in Salt Lake City for their professional and quality care these past four years.  We also extend a thank you to the staff at St. Mark’s Hospital ICU that provided such excellent care in Bill’s final hours.

A funeral service will be scheduled at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica, New York at a later date. A reception for family and friends will also be scheduled in Utica at that time. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Utica.

In Loving Memory

To the family and dear friends, I am very sorry for your loss and would like to extend my condolences. "At that time the lame will leap like the deer, And the tongue of the speechless will shout for joy." says Isaiah chapter 25 verse 6. May our loving heavenly Father bring you the comfort that you need, especially during this time. -John 5:25-29. With sympathy.
