Yvonne Droguett Zody
August 4, 1969 - May 10, 2017
Yvonne Zody, our loving daughter, mother, sister and friend passed away peacefully with her mother, father, and sister holding her hands on May 10th, 2017.
Yvonne was born August 4, 1969 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Marcelo and Dini Droguett. She attended Highland High School and Westminster College graduating with an Associate Degree as Paralegal. She married Michael Zody in 1998 and later divorced.
Yvonne is survived by three sons Griffin (age 17), Isaac (age 15) and Alex (age 13). They were the light of her life – her pride and joy. She spend untold hours making baby food, cupcakes and supporting their academic efforts at St. Vincent de Paul. She was an amazing mother and she focused on nothing but making their lives filled with happiness until she succumbed to alcoholism. She adored her boys and she was proud to be their mother.
Yvonne had many friends who enjoyed her outgoing personality and kind, giving heart. She had a great smile for everyone. Yvonne loved to entertain. She loved to cook and discover recipes to delight her family and friends. That continued even as she was drawn in by addiction to alcohol, which took her down a long, dark, and difficult journey. She fought hard many times for sobriety but alcohol eventually ravaged her mind, her body, and has now taken her life.
Alcoholism is a disease – it is a disease of isolation and a disease of one's free-will. It begins without warning as an invasion of the brain until the choice to stop is no longer an option. It then isolates and destroys the life of the individual and their loved ones. Please educate your children about the dangers of drinking – both short and long term – and the power of abstaining.
Yvonne is survived by her parents; sister Sonya (Francisco) Droguett-Kjolseth; sons Griffin, Isaac, and Alex; and her nephew Teo, whom she loved having at her house. She was preceded in death by grandparents Dina and Peter Goudriaan (Salt Lake City); Yolanda and Jorge Droguett (Santiago Chile); uncle and aunt Max and Inge Goudriaan (Salt Lake City).
The family would like to thank Sophia, Lavi and the Danville staff for their tireless care for Yvonne and thank you to Rachel and Hearts for Hospice for their work of angels helping Yvonne and our family find comfort during this difficult time.
There will be a Wake and viewing where friends may call on Tuesday, May 16th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking provided on the north side of the building. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 17th at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 E. Spring Lane, Salt Lake City. Interment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, Salt Lake City.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Yvonne's love of dolphins and the ocean by making a donation to Blue Voice at http://www.bluevoice.org/ – an organization that works tirelessly to protect Dolphins, Whales and our oceans.
"May your tears fall over your pain and may clear, free air bless your newly healed soul.

Yvonne came back into my life as a kind friend at a law firm party. She was a student of mine at Highland and later at Westminster. She loved books and joined the armchair travel book group and introduced me to cookbooks at the King's English. She left a legacy through her kindness.

I remember so many happy times when we played as kids. Though Yvonne and I lost touch starting Junior High, I thought of her often and hoped she was happy. My sincere condolences to all of you.

Dear Dini, Marcelo, Sonja & Francesco, Teo and especially Yvonne's beloved boys Griffin, Isaac, and Alex, I only have precious memories of all of you with Yvonne as you all passed through my kindergarten classroom during our celebrations. Yvonne's love and dedication to her boys was immense. She was clearly very talented and always loved sharing those talents with her boys and family. She was so generous in volunteering her artistic cooking talents to our kindergarten opera receptions and other school events. She was always involved and present in many classroom volunteer projects to support her boys and their classmates. I feel blessed to have known her as a supportive parent to her children and their schooling. I offer you my deepest sympathy for the pain of your loss. I miss her warm smile and kindness too. Yvonne and all of you will remain in my prayers. God Bless you all with consolation and peace.

Dear Marcelo, Dini and Sonya; though I teach English, I would not find the exact words to express how I feel with such a pain and sorrow.

Yvonne, my cousin at the other side of the world, we always had very funny moments to share each other in Santiago and Cozumel.I enjoyed everyone of them. If all the people could laugh like you, with so pretty and shinny joy, it would be a great world, much better. I will be living for ever in your magical laughing that I had the opportunity to share with you. Thanks for your hapiness and sweetness. The prettiest and sweet kiss to you from my memories to heaven. Dear uncle Marcelo, aunt Dini and Sonya: the last weeks have been of much pain in our family, here in Chile, at the distance. We are with you and our thougts will always be with you and loving memories of Yvonne. A hug for you with all my heart and I hope that peace be with you little by little every day. Carlos.
