Zachary Weyher

November 4, 1977 - August 12, 2024

SLC,UT-Zachary James Weyher passed away on August 12, 2024. Zach was a remarkable human being-adventurous, brilliant, and deeply humorous. He spent his life seeking out and creating beautiful experiences with the people he loved. When Zach was around, the world felt more vibrant, filled with music, art, food, literature, and the richness of life. He was the spontaneous dreamer who booked last-minute trips to Paris and the dedicated litigator who mastered the complexities of antitrust law. Above all, Zach was a loving father, loyal friend, generous partner, and devoted son and brother.

Born on November 4, 1977, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Bill “Mo” and Mary Jane “Nene” Weyher, Zach displayed his daring spirit from an early age. He grew up alongside siblings who shared his love for adventure. With his older brother Sam as the mastermind, Zach as the executor, and Anna and Willy as eager accomplices, the Weyher siblings were a formidable team. Zach's charisma was undeniable-he could talk anyone into anything, whether it was building homemade ziplines, performing magic shows, or bringing home countless adopted dogs.

Zach attended Rowland Hall St. Mark's, where he formed a lifelong bond with his best friend, Christian Thomason. It was Christian's father, Ray, who introduced Zach to the guitar, sparking a lifelong passion for music. Zach and Christian went on to attend the University of Oregon together, where Zach majored in literature. His love for the dark complexities of Russian literature was immortalized in his Dostoevsky tattoo.

Zach returned to Utah to attend the S. J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah, accompanied by his beloved dog, Otis. In law school's competitive environment, Zach thrived. After graduation, he joined the international litigation firm Howrey, LLP, where he quickly became known for handling some of the firm's most challenging and high-stakes cases. This success led him to a partnership at Pia Hoyt, where he excelled as a complex civil litigation trial lawyer.

It was during law school that Zach met the love of his life, Josie Brumfield. What began as a competitive academic rivalry blossomed into a deep and abiding love. Together, they had a beautiful son, Chance, and traveled the world, often on a whim. Zach also embraced Josie's children-Ben, Patrick, and Autumn-from her previous relationships as his own, creating a blended family full of love and laughter. Zach and Josie's relationship defied easy labels; it was as rich, complex, and enduring as the remarkable individuals they were. Zach's legacy lives on through the family he cherished.

Zach is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jane; his aunt, Bonnie Suerig; his best friend, Christian; and his cherished dogs, Rascal, JJ, Otis, Bruiser, Clark, Kelsey, and Lars. He is survived by his loving partner, Josie Brumfield; their son, Chance; Josie's children, Ben, Patrick, and Autumn; his father, Mo; his siblings, Sam (Elizabeth), Anna, and Willy; and his nephews, Jack, Henry, and Bruce Wayne. Zach's absence leaves a profound void in the lives of those who loved him.

Zachary James Weyher left this world on Monday, August 12, and the heavens have wept ever since.

The Brumfield and Weyher families will hold a private service to honor Zachary's life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Salt Lake County Animal Services, a cause close to Zach's heart, as many of the Weyher/Brumfield dogs found their forever homes through its efforts. https://www.saltlakecounty.gov/animal-services/
