Lanny "Jason" McLoney passed away on March 14th, 2018, at the age of 80 in Sandy, Utah.  Jason was born on May 24th, 1937 to Wirt and Sarah McLoney in Gunnison, Colorado.  Jason was the middle child with his older sister, Nancy, and his younger brother, Steve.  He graduated from High School in San Diego, California and went on to proudly serve an LDS Mormon mission in the North Eastern States , primarily New York.

On December 23rd, 1961 he married his loving wife Trina Mariel Phister in the LDS Temple in Los Angeles, California.

Jason had a passion for education.  He attended Brigham Young University, and ultimately received his PhD from UCLA.  He spent his early years teaching high school and college in California, and much of his career at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California as both Professor and Department Chair in Industrial Arts and Technology.  He enjoyed running the shot clock and the down markers for Humboldt's basketball and football teams.  Jason served many years on the Humboldt County Board of Education as an elected official.  He spent time as Dean at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri before retiring in Sandy, Utah.

Jason's retirement was short lived as he went on to serve a Family & Church History mission at the Genealogy Library in Salt Lake City, Utah for over 23 years.  Jason also found a 2nd career in work as a movie and commercial actor, proudly becoming a member of S.A.G.  He enjoyed being on set whether it was a big budget movie, print ad, voice over, TV series, or small indie film.  He loved to tell stories about all of the famous people he worked with over the years, and was fortunate enough to land quite a few speaking parts and important character roles.

In the early 2000's, Jason co-compiled a book of poems by Eliza R. Snow  which he published under his own company, Jason Crane Publishing in 2004.

Jason enjoyed keeping busy and had many hobbies throughout his life including; macrame, woodworking, canning, gardening, agate stone hunting at the beach, bowling, baseball, watching sports(esp. boxing), working in his in-home photo lab, road trips with his wife Trina, and by far his favorite - genealogy.

Jason also was called upon to be the Bishop in the local ward in Arcata, California where he served his congregation with empathy and integrity.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Trina; seven children - Jennifer (Val) Manfredda, Steven (Patty) McLoney, Rebecca McLoney, Mariel McLoney, Michele (Trevis) Anderson, David (Lizett) McLoney, and Sarah McLoney; 11 grandchildren - Zackery, Cameron, Stephanie, David, Henry, Ruby, Gisselle, Isabelle, Juliette, Charlette, and Alexander.  He leaves behind one great granddaughter, Autumn.

He is preceded in death by his sister Nancy, father Wirt, and mother Sarah.

Donations may be made in memory of Jason to Intermountain Homecare & Hospice, 11520 South Redwood Road, South Jordan, UT 84095.  The McLoney family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude for the hospice care given to Jason in his last days.

At Jason's request, a private family graveside service will be held at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery on Thursday, March 22, 2018.
