In Loving Memory

Dear Ralph, Anne Marie, family and friends,

Jim McBroom was one of my best childhood friends. We spent nine years together at Cathedral School and four more at Judge Memoral High School. We were both altar servers and Cub Scouts. We had many sleepovers, we played, we swam, we laughed and we hiked the foothills above the city. We occassionally went skiing together (although he was a far superior skier than I) and we often carpooled to parties and school dances. He even invited me to join his college fraternity and enthusiastically offered to be my sponsor. (Something I was unable to accept due to my commitment to the school's Theatre Dept.)

I remember how hard Jim worked to be the best student he could be. I remember how loyal and true and kind he was. And generous, always generous.

Although our paths diverged after college and many, many years have passed, my thoughts have often gone to my friend, the happy memories we shared and the many lessons we learned.

I'm saddened to hear of Jim's passing. I'm sorry for the grief you must feel. And I'm grateful to have known such a fine friend in my earliest and most formative years.

Distance prevents me from attending your service today, but know that my prayers will find their way there.

God be with you all.

Dear Ralph, Anne Marie, family and many friends,

Jim was a remarkable person and a man of outstanding qualities and abilities. His death is a loss and sorrow for many. He was a good friend and positive part of the lives of a great diversity of people. His kindness and respect were his gifts to me. Distance prohibits my presence, but you and Jim will be in my thoughts and prayers, especially during the time of his funeral Mass at the Cathedral. Rest In peace Jim, and may the joys of heaven be yours.  With affection,

Fr. John E. Norman
