Ted Wilson

In Loving Memory

Dear Jenny & Family-

my thoughts and prayers are with you and yours as we mourn the loss of Ted Wilson, and celebrate the completion of his circle of life.

My sister, Betsy Mates Thompson (12/15/1950 - 05/23/2017) taught you at Bryant Middle School.

She shared with me what a leader she felt you are (much like your father) and how talented and giving  to others.

Please keep your memories close to your heart.  Know how much of a difference Ted Wilson made to the people of Salt Lake City; how cherished he is in our lives.

Thanks for sharing his life and love.  Sincerely,

Charlotte Mates

Ted Wilson.
What a wonderful, kind, generous, talented, and compassionate person you were, and still are somewhere.   It was so nice to get to meet and know you through one of your best friends and my best friend Rick Reese.  Through you and Rick I learned of the beauty and wonder of the great outdoors.  Your leadership along with Rick's result in the Bonneville Lake Shore Line Trail, which is now used by so many people.  Salt Lake City benefited greatly while you served as mayor.  I enjoy working under your leadership while on the S.LC.P.D.  Thank you again for the mountain peaks we climbed and the trails we hiked.  Look for the climbing rope Rick is hanging down for you.   Rob Reese.

Dear Wilson Family,

I have appreciated Ted since I was an eight-year-old would-be racer with the Gaddis Training Organization (GTO)  Ted was one of the coaches and was always so kind to me.  Over the years, whenever he ssaw me, he would greet me warmly and we would have a nice chat.  He usually mentined the many "Coaches' Picnics" that my dad, T. Upton, served slopeside, following the final race of the season.

I had the good fortune of having Ted as a Sunday school teacher when I was in college.  I loved his lessons and always came away with food for thought.

Much later, when I was serving on the Salt Lake City Council, I would pass the Gittins painting of Ted in the hall and offer a little mental salute.  He and Holly were always kind and encouraging when I saw them, knowing a bit about what life in City Hall can be.

I'm proud to say that I had the opportuniy to vote for Ted for mayor, senator, and governor.

My life is better because Ted was a part of it.  I regret that I will be traveling the day of the memorial, so cannot attend.  Know that I send my condolences and love to all of you.

Ted, may you be blessed with more light powder to ski, and more mountains to climb.

Fondly,

Lisa Ramsey Adams

Dear family,

Ted and Holly would visit Salt Lake Harley-Davidson and spend some time with my late husband, Frank Jones.  He and Ted became fast friends.  We enjoyed time spent with them.  I know that you are his joy and a testament to a live well lived.

God bless and hold you through this very difficult time.

It was an high honor to serve with Ted as the Salt Lake City Attorney during his tenure as the City's three-term Mayor.  Having served for over 27 years as the City Attorney, which spanned 6 Mayors, I can affirm that the City always had a steady and skillful hand at the wheel. Thereafter, he remained a vital source of wisdom and interest in the City's well being.

His legacy is open for all to see, but I cherish our time working together. His footprint on the City's Airport reorganization and adroit handling of "City-Gate" (with the change of City Governance to the Mayor/Council form of government) are among a long list of enduring legacies that are foundational in making Salt Lake a great city and organizational entity.

My love and condolences to all his family.  I love and respect your wonderful and gifted man.  God's comfort and peace be upon you all.  Ted left you a wonderful legacy. I wil miss our occassional lunches, where we (in our own minds) solved the problems of the world.  God bless--Roger  Cutler

Mayor Ted Wilson invited me to join his leadership team in 1980. As his Chief Administrative Officer, it was my distinct honor to serve under his visionary and trusting leadership for the next 5 plus years until his departure in 1985. I will cherish those times together and so many key events throughout; and the special opportunity to be a member of an incredibly united management team. Ted demonstrated empathy, love and interest for what really mattered, beginning with family and extending to others, even those with serious disagreement. Ted Wilson was a true "Mayor's Mayor!" Thanks Ted, for your trust, confidence, mentoring and example. You truly touched my "life for good."

While Ted served as Chief of Staff for the late Congressman Wayne Owens, I ran the Congressman's Cedar City Field Office.  I so enjoyed interacting with Ted as we worked for Wayne and then some intense times during Wayne's campaign for the U.S. Senate.  Ted and I shared great conversations, meals tucked between town meetings as we trekked with Wayne to visit citizens in southern Utah communities. Ted was alert, engaging, encouraging, a team player and just a terrific person to count as a friend.  Blessings to his family.  Enjoy all those great memories shared with a terrific man.

Ted Wilson was a great human being who led by example and inspired everyone to be better.   I'll always remember a nice chat with him in the waiting room at Jiffy Lube on 700 East, when he was genuinely present and approachable, serene and unhurried, doing his own day-to-day errands on a Saturday morning despite being a Very Important Person.  A true mensch who embodied goodness.   Thank you, Ted, for setting a tone of optimism everywhere you went.
