Augustin J (AJ) Suchar

September 9, 1938 - March 15, 2019

On March 15, 2019 at the age of 80 our beloved husband, father, and grandfather Augustin J Suchar died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family.

AJ lived and worked around the world. He was born on September 9, 1938 to Leopold and Elizabeth Suchar in Kostoliste, Slovakia. He attended university at Bratislava where he received a Bachelor's of Science Degree and a Master’s Degree in Metallurgy. He met the love of his life Anna and was married on February 15, 1969. They moved to Canada, living in several cities including Sudbury, Saskatoon, Elliot Lake, and Mississauga, before moving to the United States in Murray, Utah. They moved to Zambia in 1990 returned to Salt Lake City, Utah five years later. AJ then worked in Russia and Canada before retiring. A.J. loved boating, fishing, golfing, and road trips with his family. He loved spending time with his wife and grandchildren. He was always happy to cook large dinners and celebrate with the whole family for birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions. AJ always valued education and made sure his children and grandchildren always received the best opportunities. He loved spending time with his young grandkids taking them to get ice cream whenever he could, although he enjoyed the ice cream more than they did. Papa always had tic-tacs in his pocket to give to the little ones. During Easter egg hunts, opening Christmas presents, and any other time the children were joyful, Papa was at his happiest.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Anna Maria, his sons Norman (Kristie), James (Kristie), and Richard, his grandchildren Xavier and Indigo (Norman) Aubrey, Kasady, and Kayla (James) Austin, Kyle, and ElleeAnna (Richard) his two sisters Margita and Zofia, and countless coworkers and friends who he touched by his professionalism and friendship. He was preceded by his father Leopold and mother Elizabeth.

His family would like to extend a special thanks to all the doctors and health care workers that took exceptional care of AJ throughout his time, especially the kind professionals at Western Peaks Acute Care and Solstice Hospice.
