Nedra Farr Nielsen

 

Devoted wife, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully, April 18, 2010, while surrounded by her children.  She is reunited with her beloved husband of 63 years, Richard Lee Nielsen who preceded her death in 2006.

Nedra was born November 7, 1921 in Cornish, Utah, the third of four daughters, to Christine and William Farr.  She received a music scholarship to Southern Utah State College where she earned her Associates Degree and later attended LDS Business College. She married her sweetheart Richard Lee Nielsen on August 31, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. 

She served faithfully in various church callings and organizations, including Relief Society President, counselor, and teacher.  Her favorite calling was teaching in the Relief Society.  Nedra lived an exemplary life of love and service.  She and her husband enjoyed working at the Salt Lake Temple. 

She gave generously of her time recording tapes for the Utah Blind Association and spent countless hours in the PTA.  After her children were grown she worked at Valley Bank and Trust.  Nedra has always been an avid reader and was well known for her thorough book reports. She had a wonderful talent and love for knitting.  It brought her great joy to create beautiful blankets for her family.  She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, ceramics, and has always loved to sing. Nedra was best known for her positive outlook, cheerful disposition and selfless nature.  She found her greatest joy spending time with her family.  She is a beautiful woman who is loved and treasured by her family and whose example will bless their lives forever.

Nedra is survived by her children Richard (Annie), Kathryn Nielsen (Reed Morrell), Carolyn Paddock, Marianne (Craig) Harmon, Douglas, Steven (Tamara); 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and sister Wilma McCullough.  In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her two sisters Beth Berman and Helen Voorhees.

 

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 23 at 12:00 noon at the Valley View 12th Ward, 2125 Evergreen Avenue (3435 South), where friends may call upon the family beginning at 10:30 AM.  Interment to follow at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive.
