Edwin Hugh Miller

December 3, 1947 - January 23, 2021
Edwin Hugh Miller
Edwin Hugh Miller finally ran out of gas on January 23, 2021 after a valiant fight with cancer, unfortunately the cancer won, DAMN CANCER!

Hugh was born in Cascade, Idaho to Edwin and Vera Miller. Donald and Roger are his brothers.

They lived back and forth between Utah and Idaho. Finally settling in the Salt Lake Valley.

From a young age Hugh loved the challenge of taking things apart and putting them back together. He wanted to know how things worked. He worked with his father, uncles and mentors in the shops. This resulted in pursuing his trade as a master mechanic for over 45 years. He worked for several shops, dealerships, 25 years at Salt Lake County Fleet, and at Herms Automotive with friends; Herm, Claudia Scott and Suzie. He retired in his mid 50’s to pursue other dreams.

Hugh married the love of his life Janice celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Hugh loved his family Sharla is his girl and very proud of her. Definitely Daddy’s girl. Later Sharla gave us three grandsons; Austin, Taylor, and Dylan; and a new great grandson Jaxon.

Family was very important and we have many adventures, experiences and fun times. Lots of laughs. Hugh has been a huge male influence for his kids and family.

Hugh loved life. He was an explorer, adventurer, builder, teacher, and hard worker. His motto…. Work hard, play hard. He loved the outdoors, hiking, fishing, camping and traveling. He loved music and eating good food. Papa could build or fix anything. He enjoyed wood working and designing. He designed and built model cars for the grandsons, a lighthouse for the yard, treasure boxes for the grandsons, shelves for Sharla, and many projects for friends and family. He was a self taught man and was not afraid to tackle most anything. He was a very giving man and eager to help with many projects when asked. He was a man of many talents, interests and abilities.

Janice and Hugh loved traveling in their milk truck camper with Sharla, friends, and family. They later got the motorhome and had some great times. After retiring in their 50’s they were able to travel more. In the winter they were snowbirds. They would travel south for the winter. They saw family and friends and made many new friends along their journey.

Many thanks to our good neighbors and friends; Kim and Brent who looked after our home so we could go and enjoy our time.

We love our Pugs; Spugs, Jazzie, Josie and Sadie. Not to forget; Freckles our Boston Terrier. They were our road warriors and had lots of adventures by our side.

Hugh was known as a prankster and jokester. Having quite a sense of humor. A simple yet complicated man with a big heart.

Hugh is survived by his wife Janice, daughter Sharla, grandsons; Austin, Taylor (Hannah), Dylan (LaRae), and one great grandson Jaxon. Also, surviving Roger, Amanda, Colton, mother in law Betty Clegg, Susan and William Biesele and Michael. And their other girls Rachel and Virginia.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Edwin and Vera, brother Donald, his grandparents George and Clara McMurdie, Ovie Miller, father in law Daris Clegg and a sister in law Norma MIller.

Many thanks to our dear friends at Inspiration Hospice for the special care they gave Hugh and all of our family. Especially our guardian angels; Melissa, Brenna, Tawnya and Karen who guided us through these tough times.

He will be missed.

A celebration of Edwin’s life will be held at a later date when we all can be together.
