Joshua Dee Sherwood
Josh D Sherwood, beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend passed away unexpectedly on August 19, 2023 at the young age of 38. Josh was welcomed into this world by his parents, Steve Sherwood and Carolyn Stromness in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 3, 1985. Josh was the caboose of the family.
Josh lived a very fulfilling life. He was adventurous in all that he did. He loved to hike, camp, mountain bike, rock crawl, rappel, and travel. Over the last few years, Josh enjoyed golf, pickleball, cornhole, ceramics and also bowled in a league for many years. Josh made many friends through all of his hobbies, some becoming lifelong and as close as family. Josh maintained his friendships with those close to him, and after experiencing a major medical issue last year learned how much he truly meant to his friends as they became a dedicated support system. While Josh didn't have any children of his own, he had his two loyal companions, his fur babies, Auto and Sid that he included in every adventure possible. He was also an incredible uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He always made sure to dedicate time with them assuring that he was everybody's favorite uncle.
Josh attended the University of Utah, where he earned his Bachelor of science, in Mechanical engineering in 2014. He graduated with honors on the Dean's list. He started his career as an intern at Bard Medical, where he recently completed 10 years of employment. Josh was one of the main contributors of research and development for the company and was able to perfect the development of many medical devices used today. While working for Bard Medical, he traveled to Mexico to participate with a Habitat for Humanity project. Many times he would travel to Reynosa, Mexico to oversee and supervise the manufacturing of his devices. He would also travel around the country to participate in trade shows and promote his devices.
Josh had a special bond and relationship with his brother and best friend Jaron. Together they would build their trucks, flip houses, brew beer and go on various adventures together. They grew up together, including the same group of friends through high school and later. Lived together many times, and would always confide with each other about their life experiences. Josh and Jaron knew the true meaning of "bro code" as they would always trust in each other through every step in life.
March 2022, everything changed for Josh as he experienced a life changing stroke. He had to slow down in life and allow people to step in and help take care of him. Much thanks to his mother Carolyn, for the countless hours and money she spent to make sure he was safe and taken care of each day. Lastly, thank you to the many medical staff and therapists at the many University of Utah hospitals and rehabilitation centers, including Dr. Patrick Maitre, Dr. Steven Edgely, Craig H. Neilson Rehabilitaion Center and Sugarhouse U of U rehabilitation center. Josh is now free from his broken body.
Josh is survived by his Grandmother; Marie Evans, parents; Steve (Edna) Sherwood, Carolyn (Hayes) Stromness, sibling; Jaron (Natalie) Sherwood, half-siblings; Karen (Jim) Larsen, Scott Roark, Elizabeth Dorrity, step-siblings; Lincoln (Sheri) Stromness, Cole (Becky) Stromness, Dane Stromness, Clark (Heather) Colledge, Danielle Hales, Shantielle (Jeremy) Mendenhall. Preceded in death by his grandparents; Howard Sherwood, Jesse Salisbury and Ruth Salisbury, and step brother; Wade Colledge.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, August 28 from 6-8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East Millcreek, UT. Guests are encouraged to use parking and entrance located at the north side of the building. Friends and family will have the opportunity to share memories, beginning at 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to an animal rescue or charity of your choice.
