Gregory William Otley

December 29, 1981 - February 5, 2024

Greg passed away the first weekend of February 2024, exact date unknown, of a possible heart attack. He was born December 29, 1981 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Reid and Judy Otley and big sister Heather. He was big brother to Darren and Susan. He grew up in the Rose Park area of Salt Lake City. He attended Jackson Elementary, Northwest Intermediate and graduated as part of West High class of 2000 and studied some at Salt Lake Community College.

Growing up, Greg enjoyed playing sports in the backyard, watching WWF wrestling, video games, loud music, going to Junior’s card shop, spending all his quarters on Street Fighter 2 at the sub shop and Tilt at the mall. He played on teams of Jr. Jazz, Peewee football, Rose Park Baseball, as well as Football for West High # 71.

In his later years he loved U of U Sports; especially Football, He loved a good tailgate party, cooking and experimenting with recipes, trying new restaurants, fishing, spoiling his mom and creating memories with his son Charlie.

In his professional life he acquired many skills in the construction industry. He used those skills for his part in building the new convention center downtown. Recently he was very proud of the work that the crew he led did on the new Salt Lake City airport. He was very excited to share details about his “blue tunnel”, we can’t wait to see it!

Greg’s son Charlie (age 16) was his whole world. Nothing meant more to him than Charlie. He loved him so much and was so proud to be his dad. The only person that could come close to mean as much, was Greg’s sister Susan, who passed away 6 months ago on August 1st 2023. He missed her so very much everyday.

His teenage years were the start of some pretty bad choices that became addictive habits. His body was tortured by his addictions and ultimately the damage done, took him down. He had so much more to offer people if only the addictions had not so engulfed his life. He fought so hard to keep control and keep his life straight.

Greg was kind, intelligent, sensitive, easily loving, a good hearted person that cared about people. He was loved and cared about by so many and will be truly missed. We are sad you are gone but glad your struggles are over and that you are with Dad and Susan again.

He is survived by his Son; Charles Gregory Otley, Mother; Judy, Sister; Heather (Chad) Jones, Brother; Darren (Annie), 4 nieces, 1 nephew and his Aunt Laura. Proceeded in death by his Father; Randy and Sister; Susan.
