Edwin 'Ted' Clarence Almstedt

On February 18, 2024, Dad joined his ‘Beautiful Bride’ Shirley 30 hours and 30 minutes after her last breath. Born on August 8, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Edwin W. Almstedt and Merle Baker Almstedt. Attended South High School where he played football. His exposure at a young age to auto mechanics set him up for a lifetime of love for automobiles and anything

mechanical. Fate took him on a blind date to a high school dance where he met the love of his life, Shirley. They were married on December 27, 1952, and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, starting their life with six children and a 38-year career with Mountain Fuel. During his career there he was an innovator of many of the natural gas tools and procedures. He was a master welder, teaching many the skill.

Dad had a big, generous heart. He gave his time and skills to friends, neighbors, and family. He could fix or build anything. After retirement in 1991 he became so busy traveling, enjoying time with family and offering service he would say “I don’t know how I ever had time to work”. Dad’s love of the Savior will give us all peace and comfort as we move forward.

Survived by Sister: Virginia Dignam. Children: Linda Larsen (Kelly), Wendy Deppe (Lynne), David Almstedt (Laurel), Laura Williams (Jeff), Douglas Almstedt (Chandra). Grandchildren: Phillip, Andrea, Alexandria, Carissa, Aimee, Bryson, Alisha, Weston, Skye, Emily, Andrew, Jack, Daniela. Great Grandchildren: Tori, Zane, Ava, Leona, August, Walker.

Preceded in death: Parents Edwin and Merle Almstedt. Wife Shirley Almstedt. Sons Kerry Almstedt and Stillborn Boy. Grandson Dominic Almstedt. Sister Phyllis McGrath.

A celebration of life will be on Monday, February 26 from 6-8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use parking and entrance located on the north side of the building. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 27 at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints, 2065 East 4675 South, where a viewing will be held one hour prior. Shirley will be laid to rest following services at Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 N Street, Salt Lake City.
