Quinton Thomas Palmer
At the age of 94, Quinton Thomas Palmer passed away on March 17, 2024 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was born February 16, 1930 on the farm in Winder, Idaho to Thomas Condie Palmer and Alta Maughan Palmer. He is the youngest of eight children, and the last to join his parents and siblings Shirley, Dean, Leo, Maggie, Alta, Della and Beulah.
After graduating from Preston High School, he attended Utah State University. Quinton served a mission in Johannesburg, South Africa. When he returned, he entered the Army as a counterintelligence agent in the Korean War. Quin earned a bachelor’s degree from BYU, and a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Utah. He married Darlene Thomas in the Salt Lake Temple on December 19, 1955.
He is survived by his four children, Julie Wallace (Stephen Chard), Thomas Palmer (Ruth), Robert Palmer (BobbiJo), and Allison (Ricardo Villarini). He has 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Quin was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in many callings throughout his life. He returned to South Africa for a senior couple’s mission with Darlene. He served for 25 years in the Salt Lake Temple and for a short time in the Washington D.C. and New York Manhattan Temples.
He was a counselor for 30 years at the Utah Department of Workforce Services. He started his own polygraph business. Quinton volunteered with SCORE organization mentoring other small business owners. He was an active member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers.
Dad’s friends and family “mostly” appreciated his sarcastic sense of humor. He made gatherings with each other fun and enjoyable. He was generous with his time and resources. He enjoyed road trips to and from anywhere in North America. He drove to New Jersey and New York many times to see his daughter’s family. In all his years of driving he NEVER had to replace a turn signal light!
He traveled the world, and at age 88 was climbing inside the pyramids of Egypt, walking through the ruins of Petra and seeing the sights in Israel.
A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, March 23 from 6-8 PM at Stark’s Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Millcreek. A graveside service will be on Tuesday, March 26 at 10 AM at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive, Millcreek.
