James R. Chamberlain 'J.R.'

September 23, 1941 - March 25, 2024

J.R. Chamberlain, 82, of Salt Lake City, Utah passed away on March 25, 2024 with his daughter by his side.

J.R. was born on September 23, 1941 to Roland and Vivin Chamberlain in Orderville, Utah. After graduating from Valley High School, he went on to study at the University of Utah and to become a civil engineer and have a successful career with Utah Department of Transportation.

J.R. was the oldest of three boys, who grew up working hard on the family farm and found fun in causing playful mischief. J.R. maintained his love of gardening and was often known for having a gorgeous lawn, beautiful flowers, and some of the most delicious tomatoes. He also maintained his love of playful fun and loved jokes, enjoyed seeing children play and laugh, and appreciated silly stories of his “grand fur babies” and their shenanigans.

J.R. understood the value of hard work and the importance of enjoying the time we have in life, which is something he passed onto his daughter. When he was not working, he truly loved to travel, fish, and enjoy nature. He would find the beauty and the fun in everything he did and always found the bright side of any situation.

J.R. was preceded in death by his parents, Roland & Vivin Chamberlain, by his brothers Boyd & Verdell Chamberlain, and his sister-in-law Mary Chamberlain. He is survived by his daughter Alisha (Jonathan), his sister-in-law Janie, his niece Stephanie, and his nephew Tyler.

A celebration of life will be held on April 4, 2024 at Starks Funeral Parlor from 6 - 8pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks people to make donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
